Deck Gauge Confirmation

Structural drawings may specify a minimum gauge or a specific gauge. A minimum allows the contractor to upsize, while a specific gauge locks the submittal. Cross-check the note against the deck manufacturer’s structural approval drawings for the exact profile being submitted.

Attachment Standards

Structural notes define the arc-spot weld (puddle weld) pattern, spacing at sidelaps, and fastener types. Detailers must never default to a lighter pattern than specified.

Weld Verification

Standard patterns include 36/7 and 36/4. Verify weld diameter against deck gauge (5/8" standard for 20 ga). Confirm inspection requirements (Visual vs. AWS D1.3).

Sidelap Spacing

Max on-center spacing (24", 18", or 12") increases diaphragm stiffness. Verify if spacing tightens in high-demand zones shown on design diagrams.

PAFs and Screws

Identify approved fastener type, shank diameter, and embedment for retrofit conditions. Never substitute weld for PAF or vice versa without EOR direction.

Edge & End Laps
